Birchbox Benefit Event March 2014

Little disclaimer:  This is going to be my longest post. haha.

Okay, so on Wednesday I went to the benefit birchbox event here in Chicago at the Southport Benefit store.  Benefit is my favorite makeup line.  I have used their products for as long as I can remember.

My sister and I arrived at the benefit store about 7 p.m. and not many people were there yet.  We were greeted, checked in, and handed a glass of sparkling pink wine.  I started out by getting my eyebrows tinted and waxed by Savannah.  She did a really great job, and this was my first time getting my eyebrows tinted.  I am definitely going to do it again and I might even go one shade darker.  The waxing was included with the $45.00 dollar ticket and is usually $20.00, but the tinting was not included and cost $18.00.  After the eyebrows, I was sent to Meg who applied my makeup, and she did a fantastic job and was so easy to talk to and very informative about products I’ve been wanting to try and ones that I’ve been scared to try.  After she did my makeup, I had another glass of wine and a sprinkles cupcake.  Then we purchased a bunch of stuff and the ticket included a $35.00 store credit. I can’t wait to go to more birchbox and/or benefit events!! We also got a free birchbox!!

The card in the birchbox:

Just a little card detailing the event and talking about a contest if you tweet pics of benefit make up from the event.

The card details the products in the box… Seriously, I almost died from pure excitement.  A strictly benefit birchbox?? Best birchbox ever!!!

The products I received in the box:

Image

All of the samples are so cutely packaged.

Stay Don’t Stray.  Full-size, $26.00.

I’ve sampled this before (not from birchbox) and this is such a great eye primer.  Keeps the eyeshadow on all night.

It’s Potent! Eye Cream.  Full-size, $34.00.

I’ve sampled before too (not from birchbox) and really like it.  It’s really moisturizing, but didn’t get rid of bags or dark circles for me.

BadGal Las Mascara.  Full-size, $19.00.

I’ve sampled this before as well (not from birchbox), and it’s a great mascara for a dramatic look.

Creaseless Cream Shadow in No Pressure/liner.  Full-sie $20.00.

I’ve haven’t used these mascaras yet, but Meg put one of the colors on my eyes on Wednesday and it looked great! Can’t wait to wear this out somewhere.

Lifestyle extra.  Twistband.  Hair Ties.  6-pack $10.00.

I’ve received this a previous birchbox and love it.  Completely snag and crease free.  I wear these a lot at the gym.

And now everything I bought (or my sister bought for me).. Don’t judge.. I had the $35.00 credit!

Image

The Big Easy.  Full-size, $38.00

My color is actually number 2.  I’m extremely pale, but I guess the redness in my face makes me a light shade and not a fair shade.  As with all benefit powders and liquid foundation I really recommend going and asking the make up artists for suggestions as to which shade will best suit you, you might be surprised.  I’m a different shade in all benefit products.  Also, if you tan in the summer your foundation shade might change.  Anyway, with that said the BB cream is amazing!!! After she put this on me, I was sold.  You don’t really need anything on top of this unless you just want some extra coverage.  I also think this product will last a while.

Image

Moisture Prep Toning Lotion.  Full-size, $30.00.

I’ve always wanted to buy this toner from benefit, but never did.. until now.  This is seriously the best toner for me, because it reduces redness and still moisturizing.  It’s perfect for putting on after you wash your face or if you are feeling lazy as just a quick clean up for the day/night/after gym.

Image

Lollitint.  Full-size, $30.00

I have a couple samples of benetint and like it as a lip tint, but not a cheek tint, so I was kinda hesitant about lollitint. Meg told me that this purple color would work great with my skin tone and she was right.  It also looks good on my lips as a base for the lipgloss she put over it..

Image

Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Kiss you.  Full-size, $16.00.

So meg put this color over the lollitint and it looked amazing!! I felt like spring.  I’m happy she used these purple colors, since they are the color of the year.

So my sister bought me this:

Image

Kitten:  A Sparkling Powder in a Puf.  Full size, $26.00 (I think?)

When I was a lot younger, my sister and I would always see these at Marshall Field’s and wanted it more than anything (probably because my cousin had one), but when we were old enough to afford it we didn’t see it.  When we were at the benefit boutique we found a bunch of these kind of hidden away.. My sister bought three… One for me, my cousin and herself.  I’m not sure if this is discontinued because I don’t see it on their website.

And then she bought me this:

Image

Coralista.  Full-size, $28.00.

I love this “tropical” pink blush.  It’s so pretty and smells amazing.  I can’t wait to wear it!!

TLDR; benefit birchbox event was amazing, my eyebrows look great, bought too much stuff, spent too much money, sister spent too much money, and drank good wine.  =)

Target Beauty Box March 2014

Have I mentioned that I love Target? Seriously, I could spend (and have spent) hours in target.  Anyway, I saw a post on reddit.com/r/beautyboxes about a target beauty box, so I bought it. The cost $5.00 and some change for tax.. At first they charged me about $6.00 for shipping, but I called and they took the shipping price away, because the info on the target said that it was free shipping.

It was packaged so nicely:

This box came with a $3.00 off coupon your next beauty purchase of $15.00 or more. =)

It also came with a card detailing the products that are inside.

And the inside of the box:

Image

Toni&Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturing Spray.  Online I saw full size going for about $17.00

This product was also sampled in previous birchboxes. I was kinda bummed that I didn’t get it in a birchbox so that’s one of the main reasons I bought this target beauty box.  The sample size is 2.5 oz, so it’s worth around give or take $6.00. This alone makes the box worth the $5.00.  I want beachy and wavy hair so bad, and since I live by a lake it’s impossible to get “sea salt” textured hair.  I can’t wait to try this product out!

Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo.  Online I saw full size going for about $7.00

This product is 1.7 oz, and worth give or take $1.65.  I love dry shampoo, but since my hair is darker at the roots, I always get the funky white residue that takes forever to comb out.  I really that this is a travel size.  It’s the perfect size to bring to the gym without lugging around full size products.

Jergens BB Body Cream Light.  At Target the Full Size is $12.00.

This is a whole ounce bigger than the sample I received in my birchbox!  This sample is worth roughly $3.20.  I think this is my new favorite body product.  I went to buy the full size, but target was sold out of the light skin tone one.  So I hope my samples last me a while!

Covergirl Smoochies Sizzle Gloss.  This is a full sized product and the price varies, but the average is about $5.00.

The color I received is blind date, and it smells like candy.  It look like it’s geared towards a younger buyer, but I’ll still use it.  It’s a fun light pink and glittery color.

L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara.  This is full sized, and the average price is around $8.00.

I have so many mascaras, so this wasn’t too exciting of a product for me to receive.  But I must say that I rally like the wing tip brush.

My pricing might be a little off depending on where you live, but even if I overvalued (or undervalued) this box is still worth more than the cost and I’m really pleased with it.  I can’t wait until target does another beauty box!

March 2014 Birchbox

Birchbox is my favorite sample subscription box and this month for an extra $20.00 they sent out a personalized link to add on either nail polish or a necklace.  I ended up doing the add on, because I got the link for nail polish, and they were too pretty to pass up…

The Card that explains what I’ve received:

And, what I received:

Image

LAQUA & CO.  Awesome Sauce (pink)  Lovely Jubly (purple).  I paid $20.00

These polishes are usually priced at $11.00 dollars, I saved $2.00 dollars… I’m not sure how I feel about that… oh well.  I think they are super pretty.  They are sparkly and perfect for Spring! I can’t wait to try them out.  One thing that annoys me is that I can’t review these 10 points each or get 20 points for spending $20.00 on them… Birchbox is usually amazing with their point system, just not with the birchbox plus option.

Coola – Tinted Matte SPF 30 for face.  Full size, $36.00

I really like this brand.  I recently bought Radical Recovery after-sun lotion… I think I’m just dying for it to be summer, and I know my pasty white will need this after a few minutes in the sun… Anyway, this sample looks like a great sized sample, but it’s not even a quarter of the way filled — bummer.  I am excited to try it out and I think there might be enough for two uses if I try really hard to squeeze out every last drop.  I like that this product has 70% organic ingredients and that’s pretty impressive for a sunscreen.

English Laundry No. 7 for Her.  Full-size, $90

Usually if I receive a perfume sample in my birchbox I end up tossing it.. I just don’t like the tiny glass bottles and they usually don’t have caps.. They are just not my thing, so I opted for the “send me no more then 6 a year” option.  I actually like this sample.  It’s plastic and ahs a cap. I might just throw this in my purse.  It smells like Spring too, it’s really fruity with hints of vanilla.  I don’t think the price is worth it though.

HAVVN – Night Cream.  Full size, $30.

I do not like the smell of this. I put it on as a hand lotion, because the bottle says it makes a good hand lotion, and it just smells like a weird mix of herbs and fruit… I do like that it is natural.. So I guess I can handle it as a hand lotion, but I’m happy I sampled it, so I know it’s not for me. It does leave my hands feeling smooth.

Luster Now! Toothpaste and distinctly White Set.   Full size, $19

I’m super excited that I got a tooth paste in my birchbox. I read that since has a blue dye in it it gives the look of whiter teeth and that the toothpaste itself doesn’t actually whiten (not sure how true that is) BUT  I’m okay with that if it is true.  After all, make up does the same thing — it masks the appearance of flaws, it doesn’t make them go away.  It smells really good too.

Birchbox Find:  Jergens BB Body.  All light skin tones.

This matches my skin tone perfectly, and it smells amazing.  I don’t buy the whole “5 visible results in 5 days” thing, but I think this is a pretty awesome find!

Overall, I liked March.  The samples were smaller this month, but I got/get to try some products I’ve never heard of before.  I already can’t wait for April’s box.

Birchbox – Harvey Prince Cherie Blossom

If you’re not part of birchbloggers and you blog about birchbox, you should definitely join. You may get the opportunity to try out new products to review.  That’s what happened to me.

Harvey Prince – Cherie Blossom

1.7 oz EDT 50 ml Made in the USA

$55.00

Image

The very simple logo on top of the perfume box.  (Logo is orange, the camera on my phone is not the greatest)

Image

Did I mention that I love their logo? Unicorn, carriage, stars, and the color orange.

Maybe I’m over analyzing the logo, but to me the logo says, “Driven by imagination” or “Driven by the unknown.” Unicorns and stars are mystical, magical, and unknown.

So, I did a little bit of my own research and found this on the Harvey Prince website:

“It began with a rebellious idea: boutique-quality scents should not be overwhelming, overpriced, and filled with toxic chemicals. Then came the inspiration: our mother, who loves honest products that feel and smell great. One Mother’s Day, we crafted a scent that captured her effortless and radiant aura. The result: Ageless, the first of our signature fragrances to take on the industry’s usual cosmetics-counter fare.”

Image

Okay, so I was super excited when I chosen to review this product (and I was chosen on my birthday, so it’s like Birchbox sent me a birthday present 😉 haha).  Anyway, I was excited that I was chosen, because I don’t use many perfumes.  I don’t use many perfumes, because I’m allergic to some of the fragrances.  Like, seriously, if I go down a candle aisle or a laundry detergent aisle at a store I will sneeze about 20 times and have puffy eyes by the time I leave the aisle.  Luckily, perfumes don’t give me that bad of a reaction (and most body mists don’t bother me), but I do tend to sneeze a lot when I wear perfumes so I try to wear them only on certain occasions.  This product is listed as hypoallergenic.  I did not sneeze once since I’ve put it on!

Cherie Blossom by Harvey Prince has a beautiful fragrance.  The cherry blossom is not overpowering and it pairs well with vanilla and hint of musk.  I can’t really smell the grapefruit though.  I don’t think this scent is hyper-feminine, and I think that is because of the musk.  This is a fragrance that I want to wear with a spring dress and some wedges, while I’m all dressed up at a Spring Flower Show or a benefit at a conservatory.  I really love this fragrance, and only want to wear it on special occasions like a romantic date with my boyfriend.  It just feels very intimate and lively.

Taken from Harvey Prince website:

“Cherie Blossom is the epitome of both rebirth in Japan and the power of a classic French seductress. Sweet, soft hints of Somet Sakura mingle with pink grapefruit and vanilla. A cool musk adds a touch of sophistication. Together, these fragrant notes play a song no man can resist. The woman who dares to wear Cherie Blossom feels timeless, and in truth, we look the way we feel.”

This product already has over 200 reviews on birchbox and four stars!

This product is also made in the USA, 100% cruelty free, and has no phthalates, parabens, sulfates, benzene, GMOs, or triclosan.

Thank you birchbox and Harvey Prince!

Have a lovely weekend. xoxo

Julep Maven March 2014

I finally received my March 2014 box a couple days ago.  I also ordered a couple other products from Julep so I thought I would post them as well.

I recycled my box before I could take a picture… Oops!!!

For March I ordered the Modern beauty and did the add on of Soraphine.

Image

Buff Lip Scrub – $20.00

Okay, so I really like the lip scrub, although it is not as “scrubby” as I would like it to be.. But I’m also not sure how harsh a lip scrub should be, because this is my first lip scrub. My lips definitely need some help this winter, so I think this product is helping!

Luxe Lip Conditioning Treatment – $24.00

I really want to like this, but I think I’m slightly intolerant to it.  I have yet to figure out what ingredient in lipgloss/lipstick that irritates.. So some lipglosses/lipsticks give me this weird tickle/cough in my throat and this is totally recent in the last couple years..  If I don’t use a lot of the product then I’m usually okay… Sorry, I got a bit derailed for a moment.  Anyway, this product totally is conditioning, smells great, and I really the metal applicator. I would recommend it, but if lip products bother you (and you’re not sure what ingredient bothers you) then I might suggest not buying it.

Soraphine – $14.00

I’ve been into white/cream/light polishes lately and that’s why I picked this as my add on.  I love it.  I have so many top coats that I cannot wait to use on it.

Overall I was really happy with my March Julep Maven Box and with the add on it ended up costing me about $25.00, which isn’t bad considering the prices of the individual products!

Image

Aretha – $14.00

AND so I bought the March Birthstone color, because I’m born in March and this such a pretty top coat.  I can’t wait to use it!

Image

Clean Slate Conditioning Nail Polish Remover and Pump – $14.00

I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m happy that this is acetone free.  Never thought I’d hear nail polish remover and cond itioning in the same sentence, so this will be interesting to try out!

In total I paid about $23.00 for these two products, which is a decent discount… But I don’t think I’d spend that much again on one nail polish and nail polish remover.

Update on Ipsy February 2014

After contacting Pop Beauty and Ipsy directly about the chemical smell in the sample size of the plump pout, I received a response and both companies said that they would send me replacements.  I received my replacements today.

Image

Pop beauty sent me a full size in Peony Petal and it smells amazing!!! The gloss itself is long lasting and it tingles, because it is a plumper.  I really love this and happy I received one that smells normal!

Image

I received a deluxe sample from ipsy.  It’s an Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in “69.” While, I find the name immature, cliche, and tacky, I think the color is absolutely beautiful and can’t wait to try it out.  I think it’s a decent size too for being a sample.

I didn’t have to pay a penny for these replacements, and the pop beauty gloss retails for $16.00. So, of course I’m really happy!

Socialbliss February 2014

This is the box that I have been dying to get, and it finally came yesterday! I think that this is one of the best boxes that I have ever received.

The inside of the box:

 Image

Wrapped up in radiance scarf: $22.00.

Okay, this scarf was hard to photograph with my lighting situation and camera phone, but it is a super cute scarf that is big enough to double as a wrap to cover up the bottoms of your bathing suit.  I love the colors and the pattern.  It’s very cute and soft.  I’m not usually a scarf person, but I really can’t wait to wear this scarf.

Image

Galena Bliss Ring by Lili Claspe – $55.00.

I love this ring.  This is something I would totally wear to work or on a night out.  I think it is super fun, and adds a little sparkle and fun to any outfit (within reason).  I received this is silver, and I’m really happy about it, because I prefer silver to gold.  I looked at other jewelry at http://www.liliclaspe.com and everything is so beautiful, but expensive.

Image  Image

Fleur de wallet $45.00

This wallet is so much better looking in person.  I really like it, and will be using it soon, as long as it fits in my purse — it’s pretty big. You can also use it as a clutch. This item alone is worth the entire box — at least in my opinion.

Image

Inked in stylus pen. $10.00

Not a big fan of the stylus portion of the pen, but I like the pen itself.  This is cute, and something I will bring to work to use, and pretend to be fabulous. 😉

Image

Vinotherapy face mask by naisture $3.00

I love face masks! I’ve never tried a wine mask before, so this should be fun.  I wonder what it smells like.

Image

Go matte polish by she $4.00

I think this color is super cute. I’ve never heard of this brand though, so I can’t give much feedback on it.

What did you guys think of the February socialbliss box?
