Birchbox April 2014

Hi all,

I received my April birchbox a couple days ago and am happy to report my reviews on the product!

The card

One of the cute little 52 Bright ideas for a rainy day… Birchbox knows me so well, since I already do this!

The insides of the box

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eye Pencil – Silver.  Full Size – 0.04 oz, $16.00. Deluxe Sample Size – 0.03 oz, $12.00.

At first I was kind of like “meh” to this product, but it grew on me after I swatched it a couple times.  It goes on so smooth and the color stays pretty well.  I don’t really wear any color of eyeliner besides black, so this will be a nice piece to add to my collection.  I’ll post a swatch of it below.

The Balm, How ‘Bout Them Apples in Pie.  Full size, $32.  Deluxe sample size 20g and I’m not exactly sure of the value.

This is the cutest sample ever.  Although it is super tiny, it feels like it will last me a while.  I think I like it more for my lips then my cheeks, but I’ll have to do some experimenting.  I absolutely love the color!

And here is a swatch of the two

Fekkai – Technician Color Care Shampoo.  Full Size – 8 oz, $20.00. Deluxe Sample Size – 2 oz, $5.00.

This shampoo smells really nice.  I do have colored hair so this is nice to have lying around for when I run out of the shampoo that I normally use.  I’m currently into more natural shampoos (this has sulfates and parabens), so this wasn’t my favorite item from birchbox, but I will still use it.

Color Club – Heirloom Pearls.  Full Size – 4 bottles, $13.00.  Sample Size, 1 bottle $3.25.

I like the color of this nail polish, but I already have a lot of similar colors.  I have more samples from this brand and it seems to be a pretty good polish.

Kind Bar – Maple Pumpkin Seeds.  Lifestyle Extra.

I’m kind of indifferent to kind bars.  I think they are okay.  This flavor smells really good so I am excited to give it a try!

Okay… so I also added this to my box for an extra $24.00… AND I LOVE IT.. Got it in the color Bambi.. I love water bottles..

Birchbox Limited Edition Free For All Box- April 2014

Birchbox put out another limited edition box, and I, of course, purchased it the moment I saw it.  This box cost $44.00 (plus $5.00 shipping).  It’s filled with natural products.  This box is great for those who are health conscious, people like me who love natural products but still use all types of beauty products, and people who want to give natural products a try.  I feel like the term natural is used loosely, but in this box it means the products are free from parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, and GMOs.

The Box —  it reminds me a shoebox and spring…

The insides…

The card (They accidentally sent me two, so this makes picture taking easier)…

And, now the goodies!!

These are all deluxe sample size items.

Eco-Armour – Shave with Benefits Shave Foam with Mint and Eucalyptus.  Deluxe Size – 1.7 oz, $3.04.  Full Size – 5 oz, $18.95.

I usually just use soap when I shave, so maybe this will convince me to start buying a shave foam… It says that it helps eliminate nicks and cuts, ingrown hairs, razor burn, red bumps and dull blades.  I hope it works! I can see it helping all of these areas.. I seriously just googled “why do razorblades go dull,” because I always thought it was from not properly drying your shaver… TIL that there are harsh chemicals in shaving creams that break down the metal in the razor…

Jurlique – Purely Bright Radiance Serum. Deluxe Size – 0.5 fl oz, $29.00.  Full Size – 1.0 fl oz, $58.00.

This is not a product I would normally buy, because it is so expensive and relatively small.  So, I’m happy to see it in the box, but I’m not sure if I’ll get any results from it because I don’t really have any dark spots on my face yet…  It does have a nice scent and makes my skin feel soft.

Karma Organic Spa – Nail Polish Remover with Soybean Oil and Tea Tree Oil.  Deluxe Size – 15 ml, $1.50.  Full Size, 4 oz, $12.00.

It’s nice to smell a nail polish remover that doesn’t smell like it is going to burn off the hairs in your nose… Haven’t tried this yet, but I hope it works, because it smells so nice I’d like to buy the full size.

Shamanuti – Activated Charcoal Cleanser.  Deluxe Size – 30 ml, $6.00.  Full Size – 6oz, $36.00.

I’ve already used this a few times since Friday and love it!  It smells great and works pretty well too.  You don’t need to use a lot to see your face feeling clean.  I love charcoal in face products, but haven’t used one in a while, so I’m really excited about this!

W3ll People – Hypnotist Eyeliner.  Full Size – 0.04 oz, $16.50.

This was the reason why I bought the box.  I purchased this eyeliner about a month ago from birchbox, but I lost it somewhere in my room (really hoping I’ll find it someday)… So instead of buying it again right away, I decided to wait, and then this box popped up and it made sense for me to buy it, because it’s basically free if you count the value of the other products… I LOVE THIS EYELINER!!! You can put it on your waterline without being scared of weird chemicals going into your eyes and making them red and irritated among other things.  It’s a beautiful black that goes on smooth and stays on pretty well, but stays on a little better with some primer.

Alima Pure – Lip Tint in Rhubarb.  Full Size – 1.013 oz, $12.00.

I was pleasantly surprised with this product!  I like the color, it’s not exactly sheer, but it doesn’t drastically change the color of my lips. It smells/tastes like chocolate so that’s pretty amazing.  And it’s pretty hydrating!

Lov Organic – Assorted Tea.  Deluxe Size – 4 tea bags, $2.98.  Full Size – 20 tea bags, $14.90.

I love tea, so I’m happy they gave us four different flavors to try!!

Feed – Feed Ten Pouch.  Full Size, $16.00.

This is a nice makeup bag and the the fact that every bag sold gives 10 school meals.  I’ve seen this brand in target before, and this bag is exclusive to birchbox.  It’s well made and has a cute design!

What did you guys think of the limited edition box??  Are you going to purchase it?? Overall, I really like it, while I like some items more than others, I know that all of them will get used at some point.  So it was definitely worth the $49.00 I paid.

Weekly beauty product post featuring Lavanila

Hi guys, so I decided that I’m going to start incorporating weekly posts about products that I absolutely love and why I love them. So I am starting with Lavanila Deodorant.  The cost was about $14.00 on amazon and it was on amazon prime so I paid $0.00 for shipping!  I bought the lavender vanilla scent.

Okay, so I know you’re thinking why is she featuring deodorant as a beauty product?? Well, here’s why… In my experience with deodorant and antiperspirants, they have done nothing to help my body except make me smell nice.  Is the price of smelling nice worth horrible skin problems? Not, no it’s not.  I would get dry skin on my upper arms and on the sides around the chest area all caused by deodorant.. But I never put two and two together, so I just thought I had really bad dry skin FOR YEARS.  I kept switching deodorants but still had dry skin.  I tried a million different skin care products and even coconut oil (which worked for everything but this area of dry skin).  So a few weeks ago, I decided that I would try a natural deodorant or as close to natural as I could find.

This brand has pretty good reviews on all sites that I’ve visited.  The product works, but does require more than application throughout the day, it smells great, and my dry skin has cleared up! Overall, this deodorant has been able to handle my daily activity which sometimes means an hour at the gym.

Have you guys tried any natural deodorants?? What are your thoughts?

So I’m copying this off sephora to give you guys a clear picture of what Lavanila is:

“What it is:
A clinical-strength deodorant that is 100 percent natural, safe, and effective.

What it is formulated to do:
LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant uses beta-glucan technology to effectively fight odor while soothing, conditioning, and strengthening the skin. It goes on clean, with no sticky wetness, and delivers long-lasting, luxurious results.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Dyes
– Petro-Chemicals
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This dermatologist-recommended, non-irritating, allergy-tested formula does not contain aluminum or mineral oils.”

BeautyDNA – March 2014

This subscription box is currently in BETA… I had to join.  It is $25.00 dollars a month for 1 full-sized product worth at least $45.00.  You have to fill out an intense survey so that they can match you to a product that is right for you.  I think it’s pretty neat.  The only bad thing is that if you don’t like what you receive, you cannot return it.

It came in a super cute box and packaged very nicely.

I’m not a mother or pregnant, but I got matched with a brand that is geared towards motherhood.. With that aside, I do have some stretch marks on my arms and legs from gaining/losing weight so this is actually a decent product for me.  It is for existing stretchmarks and I think if I use it regularly it will diminish the look of them.  This also feels like an amazing lotion in general, so I might use it for all over. It smells really fresh and fruity so I of course love it.  Even though the brand itself is something I would probably never look into, beauty DNA really listens.  AND the best part is that this product is Allergy Tested, has  no Artificial Dyes or Fragrances,  no Phthalates, no Paraben Preservatives, and it’s  Cruelty-Free.

I’m pretty sure that this is an older version of the bottle because the one on Ulta’s website and Belli’s website look different.  Also, this product is $34.00 on amazon.. But I still saved about $10.00 so I’m not upset.

Overall, I’m happy with this service so far and can’t wait to see what I get matched with next month!

Socialbliss The Style Box March 2014

I forgot to cancel this sub (too expensive), but I’m glad I forgot to cancel it!! haha.  This subscription is a little less than $50.00 a month.

And this is what a Spring box looks like.. Although th theme of the box is “Paris is always a good idea.”

AND the contents This box has 5 items:

Flourishing in Florals Headband.  Retail, $14.00.

Love this headband.  It’s super cute and tiny. It’s definitely not as bold as the floral headband I received in fabfitfun, but I will wear it.  I think my new obsession is headbands. It’s definitely a Spring item.

Ohh la la Baumes Pour Levres.  Retail, $1.00

This item doesn’t wow me, but it will be good to throw in my purse.  It has a light floral scent.  Oh, and it’s from avon.

French Milled Lemon Verbena by South of France.  Retail, $1.00.

I’m not the biggest fan of bar soaps, but it has a nice lemon scent to it.

Eco-Chic Beauty Brushes Set.   Retail, $25.00.

I don’t own many brushes, because I guess I just prefer to use my fingers.  I actually recently received my first brush set from my sister for my birthday…  This set has babmboo handles soft synthetic taklon bristles that are cruelty and the case is made out of hemp and natural cotton.  I like the look of these brushes and it seems to be good quality.

Spring in paris Mattie Bag by Melie Blanco.  Retail, $80.00.

Also known as the best item I have ever received in a box.. Seriously i love this bag.  It’s a nice spring pink (photo is a bit washed out) and the inside is super cute.  I love that it zippers and has multiple sections and pockets.  It does not include a shoulder strap, but I think a shoulder stap from another bag of mine will look good on this.

What did you guys think of this month’s box?  I love the purse so it was definitely worth my worry of forgetting to cancel.

FabFitFun Spring 2014

This is my first fabfitfun box.  I adore Giuliana Rancic.  I was dying (a bit overdramatic, I know) to receive this quarterly subscription box.  I swear I signed up in January.  This sub is about $50.00 every quarter.  I had a $5.00 off coupon when I signed up, so I only spent $45.00, which is still kinda a lot for a sub, but I kept seeing posts of what people received in their previous boxes and thought this was a good fit for me.

The box:

And the contents:

Cult Gia Turband.  Retail, $48.

This is the item I was most excited for.  I absolutely love this headband.  It’s totally a Spring item, and I love the print.  I like that it has wire in it so it makes it easier to style.  I can’t wait to wear this.  I received a 20% next purchase, so I will probably be buying a couple of these headbands.  I really want the one with cherries in it.

Merrithew Mini Stability Ball and DVD.  Reatil, $28.94.

I love anything fitness, so I was excited to receive a fitness item.  I’m not big on working out at home, but maybe this will push me to some core strengthening exercises.

Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt.  Retail, $19.99.

This is a great Spring item — Time to wash away our dead winter skin… Not my favorite in the box, but this will come in handy.  It doesn’t seem too harsh either, so I don’t think it will turn my skin red.

Kai Perfume Oil. Retail, $48.00.

This does smell like Spring!  I think it’s a little too strong for me, or at least too strong in the bottle.  I’ll still use it, since it is a pleasant scent.  It’s super tiny for being $48.00.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Invisible Spray.  Retail, $25.00.

I have a million dry shampoos, I love this stuff! I currently have one for brown hair so that it doesn’t leave any powder in it, but this one says it sprays on clear.  I can’t wait to try it out.  It doesn’t have much of a scent, which isn’t a bad thing, because some dry shampoos are way too strong.

Cover FX SPF 30 Protection Primer.  Retail, $38.00.

I needed a new primer (surprisingly, I didn’t buy one from benefit), and am happy to have gotten one from a great brand.  I love that it has a decent SPF and it goes on clear.  It’s paraben free and vegan!  Oh, and it goes on clear.

Level Naturals Shower Bombs.  Retail, $7.99.

These smell just like menthol to me (but I guess also a eucalyptus scent).  They smell super strong in the box, but I already used one and didn’t find it too strong in the tub.  It is very pleasant, but I prefer sweet and floral scents.  It seems like the perfect bomb to use when you have a cold or to wake you up in the morning.

The better Chip.  Spinach and Kale with Sea Salt.  Retail, $1.99.

I haven’t tried this yet, but it looks pretty good, and relatively healthy for a chip.  It is kind of high in calories – 130 calories for a tiny bag. But it’s Non GMO and naturally gluten-free.

Overall, I think this was a great box!  I love that everything is full-sized and I know I’ll use everything in this box.  It’s perfect for Spring, so I can’t wait to get my Summer box!! Oh, and the box is worth about $215.00 so that’s an amazing deal!  The Turband alone pays for the box.  What did you guys think of this box???

Bulu Box Weight Loss Box March 2014

I’m really liking this subscription.  I have a three month subscription and am debating on getting another three months, once this subscription box ends.

The box:

K-Pax Energy.  Full-size, 30 tablet $24.95.

This is actually a full-size product! Yay!  Although it’s an energy supplement, it looks like it can be taken as a daily vitamin.  The serving size is 2, but since I drink caffeine I think I would only take 1 tablet a day, so I don’t get any weird palpitations.

Body Glove Surge Energy Gel.  Full-size, 12 packets $25.12.

I received this in chocolate.  I’m kind of scared to try this… gel chocolate flavor sounds kind of gross to me… But I guess I shouldn’t knock it until I try it, so I will report back on the taste and if I feel the product works.

Nuvia Trim.  Weight Loss Coffee.  Full-size, 30 packets $35.00.

I received two packets which is nice.  I’m excited to try these!! I love coffee.  They have green coffee bean extract and raspberry ketones in them.

Rootology.  Full-size, 40 tablets $18.99.

I received two packs of this as well so 4 tablets.  This sounds like a great alternative to benedryl.

Havvn Go Sticks.  Full size, 30 packets $64.99.

Well, these are seriously expensive.  I’m not really sure what these are suppose to do or what flavor these are (((they work with the body at the genetic level, not sure what that means))), but I’m willing to try it out.  I wonder if this is the same brand as the birchbox night cream I received this month??

Overall, this box is well worth the $5.00 dollars I spent on it.  I’m really curious if they work.  =)
